Mercato documentation

What Mercato is, how the discount is funded, and where to start.

Mercato is an AI inference market on Robinhood Chain. One API key reaches Claude, GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Qwen and 130 models. Every request is bought from the cheapest trusted seller on the open market and passed on at cost, and part of every bill is paid by the trading fees of $MERCATO.

What Mercato is

Most teams pay list price for inference. Mercato buys it on the open market instead, where sellers list spare model capacity below list. It routes each request to the cheapest healthy seller the marketplace flags as trusted, falls back to OpenRouter when none can serve it, and adds no margin. Then a daily pool, funded by token trading, pays part of what is left for holders.

  • For developers, Mercato is a drop-in endpoint. Change the base URL, keep your SDK, pick any model id.
  • For holders, trading volume becomes a utility. The more of the supply you hold, the larger the share of each request the pool covers.
  • For everyone, every figure is public: today’s pool, how much is left, and what each model costs right now.

How the discount is funded

  1. Trades pay a fee. Every buy and sell of $MERCATO pays a 1.2% creator fee to the Mercato treasury.
  2. All of it becomes the pool. The whole fee funds the next day’s subsidy pool. Nothing is kept for buybacks, burns or the team.
  3. Requests draw on the pool. Each request is priced at what the upstream charged, then discounted by your holder tier, limited by how much of today’s pool is left.

Check it yourself

  • List and market prices: GET /v1/models and /api/market.
  • Today’s pool: /api/stats and the live stats page.
  • Every API response carries x-mercato-list-cost, x-mercato-market-cost, x-mercato-discount and x-mercato-charged.
  • The $MERCATO contract address is published on the token page and nowhere else.
